MLADA BOLESLAV, Czech Republic — Volkswagen's Czech subsidiary has officially unveiled its version of the Up! minicar, called Skoda Citigo.
The four-passenger minicompact, Skoda's first entry in the growing city-car segment, is expected to be priced from just under $10,000 when it goes on sale late this year in the Czech Republic. Sales in the rest of Europe start next summer.
The Citigo will be offered in three- and five-door variants, with a choice of three-cylinder engines.
The 1.0-liter units are rated, respectively, at 59 and 74 horsepower, and come in standard and eco versions, mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. Torque on each is 70 pound-feet. Fuel economy on the European cycle ranges from around 48 mpg on the most powerful to 54 mpg on the most frugal.
