Oshkosh Defense L-ATV

he U.S. Army's Humvee multipurpose vehicle is on its way to being retired, and Oshkosh Defense's L-ATV is a top contender for its replacement.
Oshkosh's Light Combat Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle (L-ATV) is powered by a diesel-electric hybrid powertrain, which helps increase its potential range compared to the outgoing Humvee. In this case, more range means it can spend more time on the front lines and conduct lengthy missions without the worries of running out of fuel.
The L-ATV also has advanced body armor that would help solve the Humvee's vulnerability to improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The armor is customizable to different configurations depending on what is required in the military operation.
It is equipped with what the firm calls the TAK-4i independent suspension system, which provides 20 inches of travel to each wheel. Oshkosh claims that is 25 percent more suspension travel than any vehicle in the U.S. military fleet right now.
Stay tuned for more news as the military gets closer to picking a Humvee replacement. Check out some videos of some Oshkosh Defense vehicles here on the company's YouTube channel.
