Infiniti JX Concept 2012

After a slow striptease on Facebook, the Infiniti JX concept, a preview of the 2013 Infiniti JX due out in the spring, made its world debut on Thursday at the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.
The production version of the seven-passenger 2013 Infiniti JX will debut in November at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show.
Infiniti seemed to acknowledge that the JX concept would be a polarizing design, saying in a statement that it is a "bold alternative to the many flavors of vanilla currently dominating the three-row luxury crossover segment."
The seven-passenger luxury crossover is inspired by the 2009 Infiniti Essence concept. Design cues include a crescent-cut D-pillar and a striking front grille.
Specifications were scarce, although Infiniti said the production JX will be equipped with a V6 engine and a continuously variable transmission. No fuel economy estimates were provided by Infiniti. Pricing has yet to be announced on the new crossover.
An intriguing new feature called Back-up Collision Intervention will be offered on the production JX.
"With this technology, when the transmission is in reverse, the JX will help the driver detect crossing objects behind the vehicle, and, if necessary, the system will automatically engage the brakes to help avoid a collision," said Infiniti in a statement.
The JX will also get a 14-speaker Bose Studio Surround audio system and Infiniti Personal Assistant, a personal concierge service with 24-hour access to a "live team of professional assistants."
Infiniti predicts that the JX will offer "class-leading roominess," including a second-row seat that tilts and slides forward.
The rollout of the JX concept marks the end of the Facebook striptease, but Infiniti today launched the JX concept "Power of 7" Challenge on Facebook. Participants can submit "inspiring creations" related to seven categories, including epicurean, art and fashion, film, interior design, music, athletics and technology and science. The submissions will be put to a Facebook vote and winners will get cash and a trip to the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show. More information is available on Infiniti's Facebook page.
